Bryn Chainey is a British filmmaker based in Sydney.

He studied film and art theory at the Queensland College of Art in Brisbane, Australia. In 2010 his short film Jonah and the Vicarious Nature of Homesickness, an absurdist sci-fi drama, won the Berlin Today Award at the Berlinale. He remained in Germany to direct his next short, Moritz and the Woodwose, a drama drawing on European folklore, which screened at over sixty festivals around the world.

In 2013 he co-founded the Pustnik Screenwriters Residency, which takes place annually in rural Romania. He is an alumnus of Berlinale Talents, Nipkow Programm, Locarno Summer Academy, and Torino Film Lab, where he received a world production award in 2015 for his feature screenplay Nothing Else Mattress. His most recent short film, Kill Your Dinner, his first and last attempt at comedy, screened in-competition at the Berlinale.

Bryn also works as a freelance director and editor on music videos, documentary, commercials, and branded content. His recent clients include Disney, Universal Music, Island Records, Toyota, ABC Comedy, and Optus Sport. His direction combines a firm foundation in performance with an eye for crafting unconventional worlds full of imagination and meticulous style. An an editor he is equally comfortable in a collaborative environment or being locked in solitary confinement until the job’s done. He brings inventiveness, clarity and rhythm to every project, and as a collaborator takes pride in bringing out the best in others’ work.
